Homework 4/1 and 4/2

Harvard and Columbia

Read The Thief of Always, ch. 9

Morehouse and Vassar

The kids were supposed to have a rough draft written to help them with this assignment. It was due to me on Fri. 3/27 (Vassar) and Monday 3/30 (Morehouse). Very few students handed the rough draft in and so they do not have the benefit of my suggestions.
All students are still responsible for a rough draft.
The instructions were in a packet titled: Writing about Consumer Choice

This is the format for the final draft.
I apologize for any formatting issues, but it is originally a Word doc. and it doesn't translate well into HTML.

Paragraph One: Introduction
Introductory Statement: Kids are always going to want something.
Controlling Idea: Sometimes different things influence us to want the things we buy.
Supporting detail one: It could be a commercial for a video game.
Example: An example would be that cool tv ad for Gears of War two years ago, when they had that slow song playing in the background while the players were at war and one seemingly gets devoured by a spider alien.
Support two: Sometimes it’s just the influence of a friend.
Example: Say your at the mall with some birthday money and you didn’t intend on buying anything big but your friend kept going on about how hot those Ed Hardy Cons were. Now you’re out eighty dollars.

5th Marking Period begins 3/23/09

Homework- 3-23-3/29

All students in 7th and 8th grade at Wilson Foundation will be taking their 3rd Benchmark Assessment in English class this week. This means there will be little time for instruction.
We have been working on comparison essays in class.
Homework for the week will be to correct the essays with the suggestions I left on them. If students did not turn in their rough draft essays last week they will not have any suggestions on them.
For these students, I suggest you find some time with your parents to look over your essays and give you input on them.
Essays are due:
  • 3/26 for Morehouse and Harvard.
  • 3/27 for Vassar and Columbia.
